Ringing the Museum
Bronze
2006
For the exhibition .ZA, giovane arte dal Sudafrica, at the Palazzo de Papesse in Siena, Italy, I installed a large bronze piece in the shape of a bell's tongue/clapper. The tongue, measuring 280 x 60 x 60cm, is intended to make reference to the enormous cathedral bells that are prominent throughout the city. Because the tongue has been disembodied from any bell, the walls of the museum replace a bell's skirt, allowing for the possiblity of the museum to be 'rung'.
